چکیده

Direct numerical simulations are used to investigate the method of film cooling in a laminar flat-plate Mach-2.67 boundary layer. Air is employed as mean-flow and coolant gas and is introduced into the boundary layer through one row of holes by means of a modeled blowing approach. The effects of a favorable streamwise pressure gradient are investigated for two different blowing rates and an adiabatic-wall boundary condition. It is shown that a favorable streamwise pressure gradient has a beneficial influence on the cooling effectiveness, mainly due to the higher streamwise velocity close to the wall.

Influence of Boundary-Layer Turbulence on Effusion Cooling at Mach 2.67

Future rocket-nozzle extensions have to be thermally protected by a film of cooling gas. The hot supersonic boundary-layer flow may be fully turbulent despite a strong favorable pressure gradient and strongly cooled walls. In contrast to previous investigations, where a laminar boundary-layer state was considered, the present work deals with the effects of a turbulent flow. The cooling film is ...

4TH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE FOR AEROSPACE SCIENCES Large-Eddy Simulation of High Mach Number Film Cooling with Shock-Wave Interaction

The impact of shock waves on supersonic cooling films is studied using large-eddy simulations (LES). A laminar cooling film is injected through a slot at a Mach number Mai = 1.8 into a fully turbulent boundary layer at a freestream Mach number Ma∞ = 2.44. The cooling film is disturbed by oblique shock waves at deflection angles of 5° and 8° at two downstream positions of the slot. At shock impi...

Influence on the Hypersonic Boundary-Layer Flow

For aerospace or hypersonic cruise vehicle the state of the boundary layer is of great importance because for turbulent boundary layers, the thermal loads and skin friction are higher than in laminar boundary layers. Therefore , knowledge of cooling features and laminar-turbulent transition is necessary for the design of the thermal protection system (TPS). Different strategies are used to redu...

Effects of Wall-Temperature Conditions on Effusion Cooling in a Mach-2.67 Boundary Layer

The influence of effusion cooling through discrete holes on a laminar Ma-2.67 boundary layer is investigated using direct numerical simulation (DNS). It is found that the wall condition, isothermal, adiabatic or radiation-adiabatic, with neglected heat conduction within the wall, has a very strong influence on the vortex systems that are generated by the holes and thus also on the cooling featu...
